Scottish Border Collies

Scotland's Border Collie species is the most often identified dog at the Florida Scottish Games. The Border Collie was developed in the Border region of Scotland in the 1700s and is world renounced for their herding abilities. To learn more about Border Collie visit Windy Knolls Farm in South Carolina. Bill Coburn and his Border Collies are from Windy Knolls Farm in Laurens, South Carolina. They have been working together for about 10 years. Bill uses simple voice commands when the dogs are near and uses whistles when the Border Collies are off in the distance. The Coburns raise Katahndik sheep which are used for training the dogs, meat, and breeding stock. The Coburns’ dogs are award winners that have demonstrated their skills throughout the South in retirement homes, schools, county fairs and Highland games.

Scottish Cats

florida-scottish-games-cats There is only one breed of cat native to Scotland: the Scottish Fold. Within this breed are both long and short haired felines. In 1961 a shepherd by the name of William Ross spotted the first known Scottish Fold cat at a farm near Coupar Angus in the Tayside Region of Scotland, Northwest of Dundee. The Scottish Fold was granted championship status by The Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) in 1978. For more information, please visit: Scottish Fold Rescue.
