We are proud to announce upcoming 2008 Kirkin o' Tartan service is scheduled for Sunday, February 17, 2008, 10:00 a.m., at St Giles Presbyterian Church 116 Foxridge Road, Orange Park, 32065.

"Kirk" is a Scottish word meaning church, and in Scotland this usually means the Church of Scotland — the Presbyterian Church. The first Kirking in the United States was held on April 27, 1941. The service was conducted by Scottish-born Chaplain of the US Senate and minister of New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C., Dr. Peter Marshall. Since 1954, the St. Andrew's Society in Washington has sponsored it and held it in Washington National Cathedral.

During the Kirking, which uses some of the Scottish Church form, a display of clan tartans is presented for blessing. Swatches of individual clan tartans are offered to rededicate to God's service, the clan members identified by the particular tartan. The “Kirkin’ of the Tartan” has spread across The United State and Canada. Currently, a Kirking is celebrated on the Sunday after most Highland Games and around St. Andrews Day. The Kirking will be held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Orange Park. You will enjoy this service of rededication to our heritage and historical faith in God.
